Quote of the Week:
“Don’t just share my quotes, live my words."
- Unknown

The quote above appeared several times in my feed this week.

In each case I found them attributed to Dr. Martin Luther King  Jr. as the world honored the civil rights legacy on Monday.

What’s interesting is that after some Internet sleuthing, I couldn’t find a sermon, speech, or interview where Dr. King actually said or wrote those words

It’s a great quote, and the wisdom behind it certainly reads like something he’d say. As I write this, I’m still not sure where this quote originated. So much of what we read and consume is composed of memes, tropes, and posts stitched hastily together and published online.

On that note, 2 things come to mind:

  • Our lives are busy: We absorb and share ideas and thoughts with very little effort.
  • Our lives are multi-faceted: Family, Health, and Work all start blending together.

Did you know that last Friday (Jan 12th), was National Quitter’s Day?

It's true. At least according to Strava, a fitness app downloaded by over 50 million people.

After years of number crunching, Strava reports that the second Friday of every January is when many fitness-related resolutions go to die.

That said, now seems like the perfect time to ask how you're doing on the specific goals you've set for your business. Leveling up our lives and our business is a juggling act: keeping interconnected, but distinct objects in the air and in motion (family, health, work).

Multiple voices can create a chorus.

Or noise.

The closer you’re connected to the source (that’s you), the better chance you’ll have to reach your goals.

It always means more when you write the words yourself.

2 Takeaways:

  • Goals Have Different Peaks and Lifespans. Vacations, diets, and business plans are very different, but compete for the same time (yours).
  • Create Bridges (not Barriers) to Connect to Your Future Self. An honest, recorded conversation with yourself is a real accountability tool and serves as a nice barometer.

1 Action:

Write a private letter to your future self to be delivered at the end of 2024:

Don't share your quotes.

Live your own words.

Even though 2024 is just a few weeks old, many of us can already feel goals starting to slip, dry January's turning damp, and business targets getting pushed to the side.

No one expects you to produce the Declaration of Independence or Paul’s Epistle to the Romans, just something honest about where you are now and where you plan to be on December 31st, 2024.

Write to yourself today about how you feel now, express a few hopes and aspirations, and maybe a few predictions?

Here's a tool below you can use today. Don’t think, just write:
