When I was a kid, a few teachers pulled me aside to tell me they thought I was a pretty good writer. Upon hearing those words, I did what any young, energetic middle schooler would do:
Completely ignore them.
The strange part is that even though I ignored them then, I remember the conversations quite vividly. When you’re young and someone older tells you something encouraging, it’s hard to forget.
I’ve always preferred words over numbers.
In a world where so much is decided for us, what we say and how we choose to say it is one of the few things in this world that we can still do on our own.
Great writers harness those possibilities.
Words are the arrows.
We’re the bows.
Point us in the right direction and if our aim is true, something remarkable might happen.
